Producing consistent, quality content is the number one problem that we are tasked to solve here at Knight Global. This is closely followed by, “help me rank on Google,” and, “help me make more money.”

All admirable goals, but for today we are focusing on how you can improve your copywriting without hiring us.

Or just hire us, whatever.

Moving on.

 1. Have a Writing Structure

Contrary to popular belief, structured writing doesn’t have to be boring and predictable. In fact, structured templates are a great way to vary your style of writing and stay away from ‘consistency,’ and yes I said that as an insult.

A writing structure should be specific to a certain type of copy; perhaps a list for informational pieces, and more detailed editorial content for more advanced educational content. Most importantly, it doesn’t have to be – and shouldn’t be – detailed or complicated. Think of it as a reference point that anyone should be able to look at and understand immediately.

2. Have an Editorial Calendar

Yes, we mention this all the time but having an editorial calendar will transform your content marketing efforts from sporadic and inconsistent to awesome. There is no other discipline that can have such an impact on your results, so immediately. It doesn’t matter if you are looking for SEO improvement, increased readership, or even more followers on social media (as long as you include that in your editorial calendar) creating this simple document is the best thing you can possibly do. Here, have one for free.

3. Write Every Day

If an editorial calendar is the most important discipline for improving consistency and results, then writing every day is the best thing you can do to improve the quality of your content. It’s also a deceptively easy practice when done right.

Start by putting aside 20 minutes. Just 20 measly, pathetic little minutes to do nothing but write. Don’t set word targets or even judge yourself based on quality – just write consistently for 20 minutes and see what happens. You’ll find that writing is a lot like meditation, it gets easier the more you do it and just a couple of days off can send you into a mindless rage.

No, just me?

By making writing part of your daily life, you will find that not only does your volume increase exponentially (one of our clients went from 0 to 2000 words a day within a month) but the quality of your copywriting and ideas for new blogs and social media posts will get better also.

So get on with it. 20 minutes a day, a writing structure and a calendar. Do these three things and you will be a copywriting and content marketing monster in 2018.
